GREEK LANGUAGE AND CULTURE STUDIES

 

Program Overview

 

Greek Language and Cultural Studies is an immersion program that focuses on beginner, intermediate and advanced Greek Language acquisition skills through readings, oral conversations, written essays, and critical analysis of contemporary themes, including current events, popular culture, history, tradition, and travel.

 

The interdisciplinary courses within this program offer a great deal of information about the customs, the way of life, and other details that help participants in their efforts to understand the country and the people of Hellas.

 

Topics of instruction include:

 

  • Country profile and demographics
  • History of the classical age
  • Mythology of ancient Greece
  • History of the Byzantine period
  • History of contemporary Greece
  • Regional folklore and traditions
  • Movies, theater, and television
  • Traditional and contemporary music
  • The internet and the digital age in Greece
  • Living and working in Greece

 

Based on personal needs and the outcomes of a placement test, students have the opportunity to enroll in the following beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses and acquire the Greek Language by studying at low, mid, high, and superior levels of proficiency:
